Island Health is seeking an Addictions and Recovery Worker to provide non-medical withdrawal management care at various locations in Victoria, BC. The worker will be responsible for harm reduction education, group facilitation, individual screening, registration, admission/discharge of clients, counselling, and supervision of clients dealing with substance misuse. Travel may be required for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Post secondary certification in addiction counselling or equivalent plus two years' recent related experience.

Working knowledge of chemical dependency and community resources.

Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).

Valid BC Driver's License required for certain positions.

Foodsafe Certification required for specific positions.

Experience working with adults and youth with mental health and substance use issues.

Skills And Abilities:

Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work with seriously addicted and mentally ill clients and their families.

Observation and recognition of behavioural and health status changes in clients.

Facilitation of supportive and educational groups.

Role modeling healthy lifestyle choices and setting boundaries.

Independence and collaboration in workload organization.

Conflict resolution, crisis intervention skills, and operation of related equipment and software programs.

Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.**QUALIFICATIONS:** **Education, Training And Experience** Post secondary certification in addiction counselling or equivalent plus two years' recent related experience. Working knowledge of chemical dependency. Basic knowledge of community resources. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification in First Aid and CPR. Valid BC Driver's License is required for certain positions as determined by the operational requirements of the program. Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within first three months of employment. Foodsafe Certification required for Supportive Housing and Housing and long-term care positions.Experience working with adults and youth with mental health and substance use issues.**Skills And Abilities**
