Description:
The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) assists the laboratory in sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens. The MLA may also perform basic routine procedures and phlebotomies according to established protocols. The position ensures a safe work environment, compliance with quality assurance programs, and adherence to professional and provincial standards.

The MLA works under the general supervision of the Charge Technologist, supporting the lab in delivering accurate and timely diagnostics. This role requires attention to detail, basic mathematical skills, and proficiency in following oral and written instructions. The MLA may interact with multiple team members and is expected to work independently when required while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

Ideal candidates will have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, with a Medical Laboratory Assistant program preferred. Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is an asset. Competency in Windows and Microsoft Office, medical terminology, sterile techniques, and routine lab practices is preferred. English fluency is required, and bilingual skills in French are an asset.
