This job posting is for a Medical Laboratory Assistant position at Shared Health - Westman Laboratory in Brandon. The successful candidate will be responsible for sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens, as well as performing phlebotomies and basic routine procedures. The position is full-time, with anticipated shifts on days, evenings, and weekends, starting on February 4, 2025, and ending on July 30, 2027, due to maternity leave coverage.

Under the general supervision of the Charge Technologist, the MLA will work in accordance with professional guidelines, quality assurance programs, and accreditation standards. Previous related experience is preferred, and completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is required. Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science is also preferred.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Windows computer environment required.
  • Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Sterile techniques and routine practices preferred.
  • 50 - 55 wpm keyboarding skills an asset.
  • Apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Follow oral and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills required in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Work under pressure.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position.
  • Fluent language skills (written and oral) in both French and English may be required.
