Description:

The Medical Secretary at Hamilton Health Sciences works in a team environment to provide administrative and secretarial support, including telephone triaging of patient calls. They are responsible for ensuring the timely flow and organization of information and correspondence for physicians, including patient-related information. The role also supports the administrative aspect of Multidisciplinary Case Conferences in preparation for reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Community College diploma from a recognized two-year Community College or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years' secretarial experience with at least 1 year of Oncology experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in telephone triaging of patients.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 may be subject to testing.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Keyboarding skills of 60 w.p.m.
  • Ability to transcribe from dictation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively handle inquiries from patients, families, and physicians.
  • Strong organizational skills for workload prioritization.
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Tact and discretion in handling confidential matters.
  • Ability to work independently and identify priorities.
