Description:

As a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP), you'll have the opportunity to impact patients and families by utilizing your clinical expertise and passion for teaching and leadership. This role involves enhancing patient care in various settings, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to palliative care standards through education, research, and leadership. The position offers the flexibility to work from a home office in north central Alberta, with travel within the North Zone. Virtual work is a significant component, but face-to-face patient interactions are also required. The role may involve participating in an on-call rotation for 24/7 virtual NP consultation coverage throughout the North Zone.

In addition to a competitive pay rate, AHS offers a Fort McMurray Allowance of up to $12,480 annually. The position is unionized and represented by the Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive health services to individuals of all ages
  • Integrate nursing and medical skills to assess, diagnose, and treat patients
  • Utilize advanced practice nursing competencies in Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education, and Research
  • Promote care quality and appropriate use of health services
  • Influence healthcare systems to improve patient outcomes
  • Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with a Master's degree
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as an RN
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as an NP, including 1 year managing palliative care clients
  • Experience in at least two care sectors, such as Continuing Care and/or Home & Community Care
  • Advanced clinical and assessment skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, TEAMs, ZOOM, and tele-health technologies
  • Ability to travel in inclement weather and carry medical equipment
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Palliative Care
  • McMasters Case Management Education
  • Experience in leadership roles and program planning
  • Knowledge of Meditech and Connect Care systems
  • Previous experience in interdisciplinary practice and research activities
