WorkSafeBC's Legal Services department is seeking a recently called lawyer for the Hearings Lawyer position within our Prohibited Action Complaints (PAC) department. The role involves managing submissions and evidence for prohibited action complaints filed by workers under the Workers Compensation Act related to workplace reprisals for exercising health and safety rights. This is a temporary 12-month opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the submission and evidence steps in the PAC hearing process
  • Ensure files are ready for a written hearing by a Legal Adjudicative Officer
  • Determine if a worker has met a prima facie case of prohibited action
  • Complete research and analysis of law, policy, and jurisprudence
  • Model appropriate organizational behaviors
  • Qualifications:

  • Communicate legal concepts clearly
  • Employ sound judgment in applying law and policy
  • Demonstrate understanding of administrative law and rules of evidence
  • Prioritize work and respond to external pressures
  • Interact professionally with stakeholders
  • Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor's of Law Degree (LL.B. or J.D.)
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
  • 3-6 months of legal experience
