Description:
The Psychiatric Emergency Nurse (N3) works within the Emergency team and the Mental Health Observation Unit, providing expert mental health care, assessment, intervention, and evaluation for children and adolescents in crisis. The incumbent delivers patient-centered care in the Emergency Department and Observation Unit while supporting families and assisting patients through stressful and challenging situations. The nurse also provides consultation and guidance to colleagues within the Emergency team.
This role requires demonstrated competence in psychiatric assessment within a biopsychosocial framework, crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, and managing co-occurring disorders. The nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and connects patients with appropriate community resources for ongoing support. Prior experience in acute mental health, child and adolescent mental health, and emergency care is highly valued.
Candidates must be a graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing and registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM). Strong organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, and teaching skills are required, along with the ability to practice independently and collaboratively. Basic computer proficiency for Emergency Department systems is also necessary.
