Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in Surgical/Obstetrics applies the nursing process to support patients in achieving and maintaining their optimal health. Working within acute, transitional, or personal care settings, the RN/RPN provides people-centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. The incumbent exercises independent judgment and maintains competency in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policies, Professional Standards of Practice, College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba, and the Regulated Health Professions Act.

This position requires relevant certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour, along with any mandatory courses for the specific area of work. The RN/RPN demonstrates leadership, decision-making, and analytical skills while fostering a collaborative environment that supports quality services and program improvement. Physically and mentally, the role demands the ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and may require travel to other regional facilities. The incumbent must maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license, have an insured vehicle, and meet the professional and physical demands of patient care within the Surgical/Obstetrics unit.
