Step into your nursing career with confidence by joining Alberta's Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program. This program is designed for recent Registered Nurse graduates looking to launch their nursing careers in either urban centers or rural communities. The program provides 12 months of support and guidance, structured into two phases to help you grow into your role with the necessary support.

Phase 1, the Enhanced Orientation phase, allows you to develop a personalized learning plan with a Clinical Guide and work in a supernumerary capacity. Phase 2, Independent Practice with Support, transitions you to independent practice with ongoing mentorship for the remaining 12 months of the program. You will also be required to apply for available positions of at least 0.5 FTE in a similar practice setting after transitioning to independent practice.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in this role, you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to provide safe, quality patient-centered care. Additionally, you will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour, with adjustments upon obtaining a full license. The position is classified as SN Registered Nurse NGT2022.75 under the United Nurses of Alberta union, located at the Stollery Children's Hospital in the Oncology Medical unit and program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Eligibility for Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the program start date and have not secured a regular position with AHS, Covenant Health, or Recovery Alberta
  • Review UNA Letter of Understanding #29 - Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program prior to interview
