Alberta's Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program offers recent Registered Nurse graduates the opportunity to launch their nursing careers with support and guidance. The program is designed to help new nurses build their skills, competence, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment. The 12-month program consists of two phases: an Enhanced Orientation phase where nurses develop a personalized learning plan with a Clinical Guide, and an Independent Practice phase with ongoing mentor support.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in this role, you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will use critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to deliver quality patient-centered care, while also teaching, counseling, and advocating for patients. Additionally, you will play a leadership role in promoting holistic patient care and health maintenance.

Additional qualifications include CRNA/CRPNA registration, Baccalaureate of Nursing, and final practicum in critical care

Preferred qualifications include Adult Critical Care Nursing certificate enrollment and ACLS certification

Eligibility is restricted to Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program and who have not yet obtained a regular position with AHS, Covenant Health, or Recovery Alberta. Candidates selected for an interview must review the UNA Letter of Understanding #29 - Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program prior to the interview. Graduate with a Baccalaureate of Nursing from an approved school of nursing within the last 12 months. Final Focus practicum in critical care (ICU, CVICU). Previous experience as an Undergraduate Nurse (UNE) or Healthcare Aid in an acute care setting.
