Alberta's Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program offers recently graduated Registered Nurses the opportunity to launch their nursing careers with confidence. The program provides a supportive environment where new nurses can grow into their roles with guidance from experienced peers. The program is structured into two phases, including an Enhanced Orientation phase and Independent Practice with Support phase.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. Provisional Permit holders will receive a competitive hourly rate, which will be adjusted upon obtaining a full license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations
  • Utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Teach, counsel, and advocate for patients and their families
  • Support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care
  • Reflect the shared vision and values of the organization
  • Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program
  • Commit to full-time employment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a minimum of one year
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree or Nursing Diploma
  • Successful completion of the Orientation for Adult Critical Care Nurses (OPACCA)
  • Strong knowledge, assessment, communication, organizational, and patient care skills
  • Proven dedication to delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centered care
  • Ability to assess personal learning needs and commit to continuous professional development
  • Hands-on experience in ICU or observation units is preferred
  • NCLEX completion is a strong asset
  • Passion for inclusive care and supporting diverse communities
  • Final practicum completed in an acute care setting
  • Charge Nurse responsibilities may be assigned following successful completion of orientation
