Description:
Southlake Health is seeking a dedicated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join the Emergency Mental Health Assessment Unit (EMHAU). The RPN provides patient and family-focused care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards and Southlake policies. Working collaboratively with the healthcare team, the RPN is responsible for assessment, intervention, education, and care planning for patients with complex mental health needs, while promoting a safe, inclusive, and person-centred care environment.

The RPN will utilize advanced skills in individualized care planning, risk assessment, de-escalation, and crisis intervention to support patients with various mental illnesses. They will also assist in the orientation and mentorship of new staff and students, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and ensure practice aligns with professional standards and legislative requirements. A commitment to ongoing professional development, clinical excellence, and effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team is essential.

Candidates must have a diploma in practical nursing, current RPN registration in good standing with the CNO, BLS certification, and three to five years of recent acute inpatient mental health experience. Additional requirements include knowledge of the Mental Health Act, proficiency in risk assessments and documentation, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
